Opportunity Desk is an online platform that bridges the gap to education by sharing information on relevant learning and growth opportunities for disadvantaged youth around the world. These opportunities help to facilitate young people’s efforts in exchanging ideas and preparing themselves for the future. They include: scholarships, conferences, fellowships, awards, jobs, internships and grants targeted towards individuals and organizations worldwide. Since its inception in 2012, Opportunity Desk has reached several thousands of youth from over 180 countries across the world. Our website currently attracts nearly 500,000 views monthly with about 49,000 people engaging with us on our social media platforms. Unlike other platform for youth opportunities, we are very unique because we work closely with our audience, providing useful tips, direct support and guidance to them. The following features set us apart as the most useful and reliable online curating platform for opportunities.

Mentoring Program
Last year, we launched a free mentoring program to serve as a support network for our numerous users, in other to ease the stressful and cumbersome application processes for global opportunities. We have had tremendous success with the entire process. Our mentorship program draws volunteer mentors from across the world who have a broad range of expertise and experiences. Currently, we have active mentors from Nigeria, USA, UK, Zimbabwe, Canada, Paris, Egypt and Cameroon. Some of these mentors are entrepreneurs, education advocates, leaders in NGOs and healthcare professionals. These mentors have worked with top companies and Organizations around the world: African Youth Excellence (AYE), Google, AISEC, IBM, World Merit, Ashoka, Clinton Initiative etc. To crown it all, they are alumni from top universities around the world.

Direct Engagement with Users
We manage an active Facebook Group, which allows us interact with users better than a regular page. The Opportunity Desk team ensures that questions on each opportunity are answered promptly. On a regular basis, we collect and share success stories from our network to encourage other users. We also publish useful articles on tips and guidelines for a winning application.

Young Person of the Month Award
Through our Young Person of the Month (YPOM) award feature, we identify, celebrate and showcase outstanding young people who are pioneers in their various fields and have utilized life-changing opportunities. YPOMs inspire young people to pursue their passion and overcome obstacles. A team of young, highly passionate and dedicated Africans, who believe that every young person deserves a shot at a global learning and career-oriented opportunity, powers Opportunity Desk. Through consistent and targeted search for global youth opportunities, the young dynamic team remains at the forefront of nurturing leaders and promoting youth empowerment. We strongly believe in the words of Kofi Annan, “Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society's margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies.
